The Use of All Natural Vegetable Extracts as Tannin, and Scrupulous Attention to Detail Sets Italian Leather Apart.
The Italian culture has been producing leather products at the highest quality for centuries, much like a fine wine Italian leather sets the standard worldwide as the leader in leather design and craftsmanship. At every stage in the process the Italian producers take more time, use more skill and combine old world tradition with today’s modern technologies. Italian leather bag designers select only the highest quality hides. These top shelf hides then spend 48 hours or more in the saltwater curing process while mass production leathers that need to be produced quickly spend only 10-15 hours in the curing process.

But the biggest difference between Italian leathers and those that are mass produced in Asian markets is that the Italian leather bag designers use all natural vegetable and plant extracts to turn hides into leather. Here is a picture of the all natural extracts being applied at the Barbara Milano factory.

You can see the hide on a conveyor belt to the left of the picture. It enters the spray chamber where spray nozzles spin around to evenly apply the natural extracts, this effectively turns hide into strong yet beautiful Italian leather. Companies that mass produce leather at cheap prices do not use an all natural vegetable tannin, they use toxic chemicals that are cheaper to produce.
